As we re-imagine the D.A.D., we are building on this foundation of creativity, connection, and collaboration. Our goal is to strengthen the ties that unite artists, businesses, residents, and visitors, and to create a more vibrant and welcoming downtown experience for everyone. By aligning the D.A.D. with the Asheville Downtown Association and AvlArts, we are creating a unified approach that supports the people who make Asheville special. This partnership provides the structure and shared vision needed to lift up local creatives, champion small businesses, and celebrate the cultural richness that defines our city.
Our creative community is a powerful economic force. With more than 483 arts and culture establishments, Buncombe County ranks first in North Carolina and forty-seventh in the country per capita. These numbers reflect something deeper. People are drawn to Asheville because it awakens and reflects the creativity, culture, and sense of community already within them. The very qualities that make our city vibrant, welcoming, and alive.
The future of the Downtown Arts District is one we shape together. Every artist who creates, every business who welcomes the community inside, and every neighbor who shows up and supports local work adds to the story of downtown Asheville. As we re-imagine the D.A.D., we remain committed to uplifting the people and places who make this city special.

The 2025 Campaign
In April of 2025, volunteers from the Downtown Arts District partnered with the Asheville Downtown Association Foundation to support a shared vision for downtown Asheville. Together, we are working to uplift local artists, strengthen small businesses, and celebrate the creative spirit that makes our city feel alive. This partnership reflects our belief that when our community works together, we create a downtown that is more connected, more inspired, and more welcoming for everyone.
