Re-Imagining the D.A.D

Whether the purpose of coming downtown was for business, entertainment, social connections or just to pass through, the presence of the arts has been a part of the experience. In 1999, a group of galleries formed the Downtown Gallery Association, later to become the Downtown Asheville Art District, a conglomerate of fine art and craft businesses dedicated to supporting one another and bolstering the arts in downtown Asheville. The Downtown Asheville Arts District is now known as the Downtown Arts District, or the D.A.D.

The devastating 1000 year flood caused by Hurricane Helene displaced a large majority of the arts community through Western North Carolina with the most significant impact in the River Arts District (RAD). The Gallery & Museum Guide has always been the integral part of promoting the Downtown arts and tis businesses. But after the flood, we knew it was time to reimagine our Online Guide and determine how it could best reconnect and connect all the artists, galleries, and cultural offerings throughout Western North Carolina.
