Asheville has always been the hub of commerce for Western NC, and has seen over two centuries of growth and changes, with a steady stream of visitors and residents coming to its downtown. Whether the purpose of coming downtown was for business, entertainment, social connections or just to pass through, the presence of the arts has been a part of the experience.

 

In April 2025, a group of volunteers from the Downtown Arts District reached out to partner with the Asheville Downtown Association Foundation (ADAF) for an exciting initiative. Together, we aim to increase visibility for local businesses, nonprofits, and artists while enhancing the cultural experience for residents and visitors, fostering a stronger sense of community within downtown Asheville. Our creative and cultural district downtown recognizes its unique opportunity to amplify the vibrant downtown spirit and distinctive character that set Asheville apart.
